The artistic duo from St. Petersburg now lives and works in Toronto, where they have established themselves as part of a select group of artists who seamlessly blend academic rigor with contemporary themes and narratives. Their work demonstrates that an academically trained painter can indeed think and create like a modern artist. By relocating to Canada and immersing themselves in a new artistic environment, they have distanced themselves from the Russian representational tradition that once dominated their earlier works. While Gretsky and Katz previously showcased their technical prowess with the meticulous skill of seasoned painters, their new surroundings have inspired a more restrained and adaptable approach. This shift has brought a fresh perspective to their latest series, allowing their work to evolve in exciting and unexpected ways.
