Biography

ASYA MARAKULINA (b. 1988, Perm, Russia).

Artist statement

With the help of my artistic practice, I try to understand and feel some of the general regularities which can be found in the way nature and man live and the way we influence and shape each other. Going through my own personal experience and at the same time watching the world go by - people, nature and city, I find visual and poetic parallels, which are embodied in some universal schemes, lyrical mapping. I care about the beauty and tragedy of life, its order and constancy of its flow, which swallows up every single moment with its transiency and uniqueness. I'm trying to understand the world I exist in working in the genre of landscape and revising its traditional forms. Using different tools and techniques - drawing, painting, video and animation, I create landscapes, bordering between imaginary and real.
