“GEOMETRY OF CLASSICS” SERIES. 2009

In his research, Ivan Govorkov came to the conclusion that the most common plastic model of all art in the 20th century is the “one‑sided surface” or the “Möbius strip.” Moreover, he is convinced that many brilliant works of art from the past were plastically and compositionally constructed intuitively based precisely on this sign. But that’s not all. The artist is convinced that everything around us — the anatomy of living beings, the currents of the world’s oceans, the structure of “space–time,” and everything, everything that exists in “non‑existence” — has the shape of a one‑sided surface, a “Möbius strip.” In the series of works “Möbius +,” the artists present part of a project of illustrations for these reflections. These are photo collages under the general title “Möbius + classic,” in which they simply and clearly combine their favourite Möbius strip symbol with classical paintings. Ivan Govorkov proposes his own model for creating a painting: not through experiencing and “living through” it, as most artists do and have done, and in which he himself excelled in his early works, but as a kind of “ladder” to achieve harmony with oneself. This is a thoroughly Eastern tradition, deeply revered by the artist. The painting itself, as the result of such activity, is not in this case the only desired outcome. After all, if all this “philosophy” seems too burdensome, the authors hope that the viewer will be able to simply enjoy traditional art.

PAINTING. 'STRUCTURES' SERIES. 1991–2024

.. different artists of every coming generation choose abstract art. And abstract art picks those who have abstract mind in every coming generation. Freeze, die, rise! isn't it about abstract art and continuity of its existence”.
